Geraldine: A testimony

Today, June 1, 2016, around 4 pm of the Netherlands time, Geraldine Fijneman, our dear Geraldine, made her transition to the spiritual plane with the age of 71. Despite the pain and suffering of the last few months, she breathed her last sigh in great peace, while the daughter wet her lips with a little water, the only thing in recent times could ingest.

Almost everyone knows the story and the fiber of this woman, condemned in the early 90s by a diagnosis of brain tumor to live another three months, she has become an example and a symbol of faith and testimony in the healing power of the Santo Daime.

In her 23 year survival, she was a tireless fighter in the struggle for legalization of Santo Daime in Europe and the development and consolidation of our doctrine.

In many instances, Geraldine fought to keep her healing process and skirted the difficulties surrendering totally to Santo Daime and methods of natural medicine. In recent times, understanding the inevitability of her own passing, little by little revealed to the most intimates her desire to leave the body, increasingly difficult to sustain. Wisely, she no longer ran, as before, in search of the miracle. Her own life until then already was itself the miracle.

But even in this terminal phase, the shine of her eyes, her presence was always there. Not able to move around, she had been following the works at home live through facetime.

Reference point for a whole generation of daimistas, her house in van Kingbergenstraat always embraced everybody passing there with love, affection and a  'jeitinho Brasilieiro'.

Like every high spirit, like every person with compassionate and joyful heart, Geraldine leaves in our memory a saudade and also a lightness. In this sentiment she is still living, because eternity is woven of it: for what we keep of good in our hearts.

When a few years ago I had the opportunity to accompany also the last moments of our beloved sister Prya, and those moments Geraldine reading to her passages from the Bardo Todhol, the Tibetan Book of the Dead.

In it, the author gives several tips on the awareness that dissolves and remains in any way conscious, even beyond physical death. When I saw her dressed in uniform in her deathbed, it was a passage from Bardo that I whispered in her ear: "Geraldine, follow the radiant white light!”

After the beautiful Missa we made with the body present at the hospice where she died, her inseparable friend Liesbeth told me that she, when she spoke of her transition, always said that her joy was knowing that she would find Madrinha Cristina, with whom she was strongly connected.

No doubt that passing through this radiant white light they will meet ...
